Rezet Store Visits: Baserange

16. januar 2023

With the vision to create a platform that inspires our community, we present Rezet Store Visits. Mixing art, culture, and community, Rezet Store Visits is a series that seeks to explore the people and places that inspire us. Introducing friends within the Rezet Community that have been with us since the beginning, and those we meet along the way.

Founded in 2012 by Blandine Legait and Marie-Louise Mogensen, Baserange creates modern, minimalist silhouettes of uncompromising quality, with people and the environment in mind. For this episode, we visited the Danish-French label at their newly opened store and workspace in the center of Copenhagen, to talk about core values and how they challenge conventional ideas.

We’re very happy to pay the local Baserange team our very first “Rezet Store Visits”. First off, can you tell us why Baserange started and what the purpose behind the brand is?

Baserange is a line of basics with an emphasis on clean lines and easy silhouettes. Our product offering is focused on women’s underwear, apparel, and accessories that are sourced and manufactured with people and the environment in mind.

Is there a meaning behind the name Baserange?

Base is actually an acronym – Basic Aesthetic for Sustainable Easy wear.

Most of your designs are abstract and asymmetrical, yet minimalistic. How do you see the values of Baserange reflected in your product designs?

Our collection is rooted in two groups; Our core collection which is the heart of Baserange and a seasonal collection that questions us and our practice. We see the two collections as an ongoing exchange between our roots and the relevance of our practice today.

Is there a certain feeling that you wish to leave people with when they put on a design from Baserange?

We want people to question our practice.

The visual universe of Baserange is very artistic, and the store almost gives a sense of entering a museum with some pieces displayed as art rather than clothing. What’s the reason behind this unique way of presenting the clothes?

Our visual display is meant to provide transparency and incorporate a lot of the ideas and conversations we are having behind the scenes. Recurring themes about creating space, experiences, and stories, all while questioning concepts and practices.

Can you give us a peek into the creative process that goes on prior to creating the Baserange collections?

We spend a lot of time trying to figure out what kind of conversation is the next important conversation to have and then how to visualize it.

On your website and social channels, there is a focus on engaging and supporting the community surrounding Baserange. How important is it for you to build and maintain your local communities?

We believe community involvement is essential. It comes in many forms but ultimately circles back to having respect for the environment and for people.

And before we wrap it up - why Copenhagen?

Our Copenhagen space was created with the purposes of community and experimentation in mind. We wanted to challenge the conventional ideas of what constitutes a retail store by merging together a shop and workspace, meant to focus on both the Baserange collection and our growing repair concept. A place to question, explore, and hold conversations.
