Who are you?

I’m Joshua and I’m an artist, producer, songwriter, creative.

What are you doing?

I tell stories through music and emotions.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration from everyday life and from the people around me. What they’re going through and what I’m going through. Just generally what people are going through and people’s feelings, emotions and conversations that happen with people.

What does it mean to you to be a music artist?

Being an artist is expressing yourself. I think anybody can be an artist when they express themselves. Being an artist is also like a muscle training yourself to use that muscle of expressing yourself and expressing yourself in the purest form that you can.

How has your musical style evolved through the years?

Since I grew up in a gospel church and had a very churchy background and moving from England to here gave me a wider perspective on pop music and what R&B and pop can be, especially in a Scandinavian country where you’re more inclined to hear, like dance, techno and house and all of this stuff. I think fusing those elements with the churchy background is what I’m starting now to dive more into. So more of an upbeat, lifted, feel-good vibe. Where I am now is trying to get into the feel-good vibe.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

To be honest, in five years I see myself somewhere other than here in Denmark. I feel like I see myself going back and forth from another country to Denmark. Being in between spaces of here and somewhere else because I feel like I’ve always wanted to try and explore and see. It would probably be somewhere out of Europe or maybe England because that’s where I’m from. It excites me to go and connect with the artist over there. But England is still a little bit in the comfort zone, so I also want to go somewhere where it’s like totally out of my comfort zone.

What are the three songs you listen to the most?

Benny Jamz - Leopard
Giggs - The Essence
Tendai - My World

Do you have any rituals before performing?

I love to do sauna gus. I love that. Just to kind of get into that mental headspace and rinse the whole body. So in the morning I do sauna and then like two hours before I go on a little run and then I’m pretty much in the headspace. Maybe I drink a little tea to warm up the voice, then I’m in the headspace.

How does fashion play a role in your identity as an artist?

I would say being an artist is about expressing yourself and that way I feel like fashion is a lot about expressing yourself in the way you dress and how you speak to other people, and how that speaks to other people. Artist and fashion goes hand in hand because they’re both forms of expression - you’re kind of like wearing your personality in some sense. I don’t really think about what I’m wearing, It’s more just an extension of who I am as a person and how I’m feeling. If I’m feeling down, sluggish then I would wear a tracksuit and something comfy - something to give me a little bit more comfort. But if I’m feeling fly, then I put on something a bit more upbeat.
