This 3-eyelet derby uses a smooth black leather upper that starts out firm and softens with wear, with a plain round toe and minimal paneling for a clean appearance. The model sits on Dr. Martens’ air-cushioned sole, originally developed for long hours on hard surfaces, with abrasion and slip resistance built into the compound. Goodyear welted construction, where the upper and sole are heat-sealed and stitched together, supports long-term use and resoling. The translucent brown sole is finished with grooved edges and contrast yellow welt stitching, giving the Black Smooth colorway a clear Dr. Martens character without relying on visible logos.
