“We’re not here just to make shoes”. American KEEN is all about doing things differently while making a difference. Driven by a passion for bringing people together and creating durable hybrid footwear that inspires you to explore outdoor spaces, KEEN is committed to reducing impact on the very same ground that you set foot on.
Founded in 2003 by Martin Keen and Rory Fuerst, family-owned KEEN has gone from catering a niche market of adventure water shoes to decorating the feet of fashionistas. The Portland-based brand takes a contemporary approach to outdoor footwear with their bold silhouettes.
With the debut of their original hybrid sandal, Newport, KEEN revolutionized the industry. And 20 years later this now iconic, ergonomic design is still their #1 bestseller. “The world’s ugliest sandal”, KEEN brands it, but Newport speaks directly into existing outdoor trends within the fashion scene.
Stylish trail aesthetics permeates the KEEN collection, serving uniqueness with the innovative, braided UNEEK sandal and minimalistic, almost futuristic slip-on clog Shanti, sculptured from lightweight EVA. Besides all day comfort, versatility and longevity is of the essence in KEEN styles. The shoes are made to keep in order to protect our planet and avoid overconsumption. That, together with philanthropic efforts, is a part of the KEEN Effect.
KEEN aspires to make ethically sourced, “forever chemical” free designs, and since 2018 KEEN has consciously created shoes without the use of PFAS to secure a safer environment for all. Several styles are partly upcycled from harvest waste - like the cords and lace-lock system of the UNEEK silhouette, that are made from recycled PET bottle plastic.
