Artist Talks: Sara Vita

May 29, 2024

Artist Talks aims to delve into the minds and stories of creative souls who shape our world. Join us as we explore the vibrant tapestry of inspiration that surrounds us, guided by the voices and visions of those who dare to dream, create, and inspire.
27-year-old Sara Vita made her debut as a DJ at the age of 18 and has since been a regular fixture on the Copenhagen club scene. It is rooted in her love for mixing electronic music with warm rhythms and thought-provoking lyrics that she started her artist project. With tracks like ‘femtyve’ and ‘Støj Igen’, she expresses all the ugly thoughts and feelings one can carry and creates space for an unfiltered image of being a young woman.

When did you start making music?

I've always had a love for creating melodies and writing lyrics. It started when I was 10 years old, when I wrote my first song for a theater performance. I continued experimenting with it in high school, where I performed my own songs. I started DJing almost 10 years ago and have been cultivating music in that way. However, it wasn't until I met Benjamin (Ben Legit), with whom I make all the music and who produces the songs, that I really took the dream seriously and entered songwriting as a craft. We started making music together four years ago and released my first single in 2022.

Which genre do you listen to the most?

It might be a cliché, but I genuinely listen to a variety of genres. If I had to define my taste, it would probably be a crossover between the very broad genres of electronic music and pop music, and I have a huge love for afrobeat and reggaeton. And hip-hop. And R&B. And I'll stop now.

Which artist inspires you the most?

I'm very inspired by artists who manage to create a whole universe around their music both visually and musically. Artists who follow their own path and create music where they dare to take chances because they trust their vision. There are many of them, but to mention one, I'm hugely inspired by the artist Stromae. He's an artist through and through.

What can we expect from you in 2024? Concerts, albums, etc.

2024 will bring a lot of new music that I'm excited to share with the world. Additionally, I'm getting the live aspect going and will, among other things, be playing at Surround Festival on May 18th. So hopefully, I'll catch some attention with my little project.

What have been the biggest highlights in your career so far?

For a rookie like me, it's been huge to hear my songs on P4 and P3. My first concert was last November at the nightclub Jolene, and it was also a huge night for me. The place was packed, and it was so wild to experience all the support and love in the room.

What have been the biggest challenges?

As a young artist, it's really tough not to constantly compare yourself. Both with how "well" others are doing, but also with appearance, voice, and style. There are so many exciting and talented artists out there vying for people's attention, and it shouldn't be a competition at all, but it can quickly feel that way. Breaking through takes time and patience. You have to trust your development and process and cheer on those around you.

If you could make a song with any artist of your choice, who would it be?

I've been really excited about Erika de Casier ever since she had her project Saint Cava. It's only gotten wilder. Even though she sings in English and I in Danish, it would be huge for me to do something with her.

Do you have any advice for young emerging artists?

I really think it pays off to spend some energy figuring out what you want with your music and why. Get skilled. Go all in. And then off you go!
